The Community Library in Cobleskill, New York is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic and motivated individual to serve as Library Assistant. The Community Library is chartered to serve the Cobleskill-Richmondville School District, a population of over 14,000. Located in the heart of the Village of Cobleskill, a rural/suburban community located about 30 miles southwest of Schenectady, New York in beautiful Schoharie County.

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of full-time paid experience in public programming, education, public service, and /or a clerical setting; OR
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two-year college with an associate degree and three (3) years of full – time paid experience in; public programming, education, public service, and/or a clerical setting; OR
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of full-time paid experience in public programming, education, public service, and/or a clerical setting;
Note: Part-time employment can be pro-rated to count towards full-time (based on number of hours worked per week) and a higher level of education can be pro-rated for experience up to a year.
Note: This will be a provisional appointment. Permanent appointment will be contingent upon successful completion of a civil service examination and becoming reachable on the resulting eligible list.
Schedule: The schedule consists of daytime, evening and weekend shifts totaling 26 hours per week.
Personnel actions at The Community Library are governed by Schoharie County Civil Service rules. The majority of employment positions at the library are Competitive Classifications, where Civil Service must determine merit and fitness by competitive examination. Most exams are given as vacancies occur. Vacancies at the library will be listed on this page, though you must follow in the procedures detailed in any vacancy notices including submitting your application to the County Civil Service. Please check with the County Department of Personnel and Civil Service for current exams and openings.
Appointments to fill vacancies may be provisional, pending the outcome of Civil Service examinations. Selected candidates that are not currently listed with Civil Service for given positions are required to pass exams in order to retain their appointment.
